What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a common condition in men where the breast tissue becomes enlarged, giving a feminine chest appearance. It can affect one or both sides of the chest and may cause discomfort, self-consciousness, and difficulty wearing fitted clothing

Causes of Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia can develop due to:
Hormonal imbalance (increased estrogen / reduced testosterone)
Obesity and weight gain
Puberty-related changes
Medications (steroids, anti-androgens, etc.)
Alcohol & drug use (marijuana, anabolic steroids)
Liver, thyroid, or adrenal disorders
Genetics
In many cases, the exact cause may not be known.

How is Gynecomastia Treated?

Surgery is the most effective treatment when swelling does not reduce on its own.
Depending on the grade of gynecomastia:
1️⃣ Liposuction – Removes excess fat
2️⃣ Gland Excision – Removes firm gland tissue
3️⃣ Combination Surgery – Most common and ensures a flat, masculine chest
Small, hidden incisions are usually placed around the edge of the areola.
Anaesthesia & Duration
Performed under local with sedation or general anaesthesia
60–120 minutes total surgical time
Day-care procedure – go home the same day
Recovery & Aftercare
Compression garment for 4–6 weeks
Back to desk work in 3–4 days
Gym & heavy exercise after 4–6 weeks
Minimal, nearly invisible scars over time
Most patients see immediate improvement with final results in 3–6 months.
